This electrophilic thiolation was extended to the introduction of trifluoromethylthio (SCF3), thiocyanate (SCN), and selenophenyl (SePh) groups. The utility of this method was shown in a seven-step synthesis of a potent cathepsin D inhibitor in 34 % overall yield.
