Ionic liquid doped organic hole transporting material for efficient and stable perovskite solar cells

As a hole transporting material (HTM), N2,N2,N2?,N2?,N7,N7,N7?,N7?-octakis (4-methoxyphenyl) spiro [fluorene-9,9?-xanthene]-2,2?,7,7?-tetraamine (X60) in mesoscopic perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has been widely utilized for substitution of the 2,2?,7,7?-tetrakis (N,N-di-p-methoxyphenylamine)-9,9?-spiro-bi-fluorene (spiro-OMeTAD). In this study, we have introduced an ionic liquid N-butyl-N’-(4-pyridylheptyl) imidazolium bis (trifluoromethane) sulfonamide (BuPyIm-TFSI) as a p-dopant to increase the hole conductivity and stability of the X60 based perovskite solar cells. As a result, based on the different concentrations of BuPyIm-TFSI in mesoscopic PSCs, the optimal condition (4.85 mM) showed the best power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 14.65%, which is extremely higher than the device without BuPyIm-TFSI. Moreover, the device based on X60: BuPyIm-TFSI composite HTM at ambient conditions with humidity of ~40% exhibited good PSCs performance with the long-term stability of 840 h. Hence, the use of BuPyIm-TFSI as a p-dopant for X60 played a significant role in enhancing the electrical properties, stability and efficiency of PSCs.

Stability improvement under high efficiency?next stage development of perovskite solar cells

With efficiency of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) overpassing 23%, to realize their commercialization, the biggest challenge now is to boost the stability to the same level as conventional solar cells. Thus, tremendous effort has been directed over the past few years toward improving the stability of these cells. Various methods were used to improve the stability of bulk perovskites, including compositional engineering, interface adjustment, dimensional manipulation, crystal engineering, and grain boundary decoration. Diverse device configurations, carrier transporting layers, and counter electrodes are investigated. To compare the stability of PSCs and clarify the degradation mechanism, diverse characterization methods were developed. Overall stability of PSCs has become one central topic for the development of PSCs. In this review, we summarize the state-of-the-art progress on the improvement of device stability and discuss the directions for future research, hoping it provides an overview of the current status of the research on the stability of PSCs and guidelines for future research.

An IrRu alloy nanocactus on Cu2-xS@IrSy as a highly efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst toward overall water splitting in acidic electrolytes

Development of highly active and durable bifunctional electrocatalysts for overall water splitting is vital for the economical production of H2 as an alternative energy source. Herein, we report the synthesis of Cu2-xS@IrSy@IrRu nanoparticles (CIS@IrRu NPs), which show excellent catalytic performances for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an acidic electrolyte. Benefiting from the optimal composition of IrRu and the stable IrSy shell, the cactus-like IrRu NPs show high electrocatalytic activity and stability. The cactus-like IrRu NPs exhibit optimal HER and OER performances and high stability at a ratio of Ir/Ru 1.00:1.07. In overall water splitting, the CIS@Ir48Ru52 NPs achieve a current density of 10 mA cm-2 at a cell voltage of only 1.47 V in 0.1 M HClO4 electrolyte and show negligible degradation after 100 h of continuous operation in the stability test.

Effect of metal oxidation state on FRET: A Cu(i) silent but selectively Cu(ii) responsive fluorescent reporter and its bioimaging applications

Copper(ii) and copper(i) complexes of a newly designed and crystallographically characterized Schiff base (HL) derived from rhodamine hydrazide and cinnamaldehyde were isolated in pure form formulated as [Cu(L)(NO3)] (L-Cu) (1) and [Cu(HL)(CH3CN)(H2O)]ClO4 (HL-Cu) (2), and characterized by physicochemical and spectroscopic tools. Interestingly, complex 1 but not 2 offers red fluorescence in solution state, and eventually HL behaves as a Cu(ii) ions selective FRET based fluorosensor in HEPES buffer (1 mM, acetonitrile-water: 1/5, v/v) at 25 C at biological pH with almost no interference of other competitive ions. The dependency of the FRET process on the +2 oxidation state of copper has been nicely supported by exhaustive experimental studies comprising electronic, fluorimetric, NMR titration, and theoretical calculations. The sensing ability of HL has been evaluated by the LOD value towards Cu(ii) ions (83.7 nM) and short responsive time (5-10 s). Even the discrimination of copper(i) and copper(ii) has also been done using only UV-Vis spectroscopic study. The efficacy of this bio-friendly probe has been determined by employing HL to detect the intercellular distribution of Cu(ii) ions in HeLa cells by developing image under fluorescence microscope. Review of current progress in inorganic hole-transport materials for perovskite solar cells

Plenty of options for inorganic electron transport materials (ETMs) for perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are available. However, most hole transport materials (HTMs) is of organic nature. Organic materials are less stable as they are easily degraded by water and oxygen. Developing more variants of inorganic HTM is a major challenge. Till date, many materials have been reported, but their performance has not superseded that of their organic counterparts. In this review article, we look into the various inorganic HTMs that are available and analyze their performance. Apart from stability, their performance is also a concern for reproducible parameters of device performance. CuSCN, NiOx and MoS2 based PSCs are highly stable devices, maintaining power conversion efficiency (PCEs) over 20% whereas, number of devices made from CuI, CuOx, CuS, CuGaO2 and MoOx but shows low PCEs below 20%. Recently, HTM-free carbon/CNTs/rGO based PSCs shows promises for commercialization. Inorganic HTMs is overcoming the stability and cost issue over organic HTMs, various techniques, their novelty is shown in this work which will contribute in paving a path for synthesizing the ideal inorganic HTM for PSCs.

Copper-Catalyzed Electrophilic Thiolation of Organozinc Halides by Using N-Thiophthalimides Leading to Polyfunctional Thioethers

(Hetero)aryl, benzylic, and alkyl zinc halides were thiolated with N-thiophthalimides at 25 C within 1 h in the presence of 5?10 % Cu(OAc)2?H2O to furnish the corresponding polyfunctionalized thioethers in good yields. This electrophilic thiolation was extended to the introduction of trifluoromethylthio (SCF3), thiocyanate (SCN), and selenophenyl (SePh) groups. The utility of this method was shown in a seven-step synthesis of a potent cathepsin D inhibitor in 34 % overall yield.
