Widely applicable phosphomolybdic acid doped poly(9-vinylcarbazole) hole transport layer for perovskite light-emitting devices

In this paper, a cross-linked poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK):phosphomolybdic acid (PMA) layer is used as the hole transport layer in perovskite light-emitting devices, and the morphology, crystal structure, and photophysical properties of perovskite films on the PVK:PMA layer are studied. The addition of PMA into the PVK layer improves the perovskite morphology integrity and promotes hole transport. As a result, perovskite light-emitting devices using a PVK:PMA hole transport layer exhibit an improved maximum luminous efficiency of 22.1 cd A-1 and power efficiency of 18.2 lm W-1 when compared with those of the counterparts with a PVK hole transport layer. Efficient perovskite light-emitting devices can be accessed by using various antisolvents due to the good solvent resistance of PVK:PMA networks. Moreover, the luminous efficiencies of perovskite light-emitting devices with a PVK:PMA hole transport layer are almost invariant irrespective of the presence of a hole injection layer, illustrating wide applicability of the PVK:PMA hole transport layer in perovskite light-emitting devices.

Spontaneous assembly of organic thiocyanates on gold sufaces. Alternative precursors for gold thiolate assemblies

Thiolate self-assembly on gold has proven to be a valuable technique for assembling monolayers on a wide variety of substrates. However, the oxidative instability of the thiols, especially aromatic thiols and alpha,omega-dithiols, presents several difficulties. Shown here is that thiocyanates, easily synthesized stable thiol derivatives, can be directly assembled on gold surfaces with no auxiliary reagents required. Assembly is complete in 24 h and leaves a similar gold thiolate structure as seen in typical thiol self-assembled monolayers. Copyright

A mild copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative thiocyanation of arylboronic acids with TMSNCS

A facile and efficient transformation of arylboronic acids to their corresponding aryl thiocyanates has been successfully developed. Based on the CuCl-catalyzed oxidative cross-coupling reaction between arylboronic acids and trimethylsilylisothiocyanate (TMSNCS) under oxygen atmosphere, the transformation can be readily conducted at ambient temperature. The newly-developed protocol provided a competitive synthetic approach to aryl thiocyanates that can tolerate a broad range of reactive functional groups and/or strong electron-withdrawing groups.

Compositionally tunable Cu2ZnSn(S1-xSe x)4 nanocrystals: Probing the effect of Se-inclusion in mixed chalcogenide thin films

Nanocrystals of multicomponent chalcogenides, such as Cu 2ZnSnS4 (CZTS), are potential building blocks for low-cost thin-film photovoltaics (PVs). CZTS PV devices with modest efficiencies have been realized through postdeposition annealing at high temperatures in Se vapor. However, little is known about the precise role of Se in the CZTS system. We report the direct solution-phase synthesis and characterization of Cu 2ZnSn(S1-xSex)4 nanocrystals (0 ? x ? 1) with the aim of probing the role of Se incorporation into CZTS. Our results indicate that increasing the amount of Se increases the lattice parameters, slightly decreases the band gap, and most importantly increases the electrical conductivity of the nanocrystals without a need for annealing.

An eco-friendly and inexpensive solvent for solution processable CuSCN as a hole transporting layer in organic solar cells

During past few years, significant research on solution-processable deposition of copper(I)thiocyanate (CuSCN) as an efficient hole transporting layer (HTL) for excitonic solar cells have been successfully reported. Surprisingly, till now only two solvents diisopropyl sulfide and diethyl sulfide are known which have been used for CuSCN film deposition as a HTL for device fabrication. Here, we have used eco-friendly and inexpensive solvent dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) for solution processed thin film deposition of CuSCN for organic solar cells. The photovoltaic devices were fabricated using two different donor polymers PCDTBT and PTB7 blended with PC71BM as an acceptor material with device structure of ITO/CuSCN/active layer/Al. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) based on CuSCN using DMSO as a deposition solvent have been achieved up to 4.20% and 3.64% respectively, with relative higher fill factor (FF) as compared to previously reported values in literature. The resultant HTLs were characterized by UV?vis?NIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM) for better understanding.

Photovoltage study of charge injection from dye molecules into transparent hole and electron conductors

The investigation of transient and spectral photovoltage (PV) for charge injection from a dye [Ru(dcbpyH2)2(NCS)2] into transparent hole (CuSCN, CuI, CuAlO2) and electron (TiO2, SnO2:F) conductors was discussed. Depending on the transparent hole or electron conductor and on the mechanism of charge separation, the PV signal rises to a maximum within 10 ns to 10 mus. It was shown that the efficiency of hole and electron injection was of the same order while the effective lifetimes of injected charge vary between several mus and 1 ms for the samples used. It was shown that a 1000 W Xe-lamp with a quartz monochromator provided light in the range of 0.4 to 4.5 eV for PV spectra.

In situ synthesis and characterization of Cu2O nanowire networks from CuSCN films

Cuprous oxide (Cu2O) nanowire films were in situ grown from pre-deposited cuprous thiocyanate (CuSCN) films which acted as sacrificial precursors. The synthesis was processed in air from NaOH solution, providing an appealing alternative to nanowire-based porous films. Plausible solid-liquid interface reactions were described. Structural analysis showed that Cu 2O nanowires were p-type polycrystalline semiconductor, with high aspect ratio of 10-30 nm in diameter and more than 1 um in length, and they were found to be interlaced with each other in the formation of interpenetrating networks within the Cu2O film which possessed large-area uniformity. It is noteworthy that the nanowire-based films actually are porous films embedded with various interwire spaces and cavities. Photoelectrochemical measurements revealed that a Cu2O film with thickness of 500-1000 nm generated zero-bias photocurrent of approximately 1.5 muA cm-2. The present synthesis is facile and low-cost, and is expected to be suitable for mass production of large-area semiconductor films under ambient condition.
